Private collection

Site: Space between two 18th century residential buildings in the center of Moscow. Width 3.6 meters, depth 11 meters, height 15 meters.

Structural elements: Five transverse walls made of in-situ reinforced concrete with window and door openings placed asymmetrically on the modular grid. Staircases and landings are to be located between them. There will be no stories inside the gallery. Instead, the central part of it will be a single volume with a top-to-bottom X-shaped exhibition staircase. The highest landing will serve as the roof. A five-flight fire escape will be placed on the street facade. The back side of the structure will have an evacuation staircase. Offices, store-rooms and rest-rooms are to be located between landings.

Exhibition area: The fire walls of the neighboring buildings measuring 15 x 7 meters (210 square meters). No special pattern is suggested for the placement of wall objects.

Lighting: Combined: natural light coming through a triangular glass skylight; artificial light from lighting fixtures located under the exhibition staircase.

Prototypes: The USST Pavilion at the Modern Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris, 1925 (Konstantin Melnikov), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, 1959 (Frank Lloyd Wright).
